biography

Steve Bellas has maintained a dual career in broadcasting and education. He was with the New Orleans NBC affiliate for 22 years as a news reporter, anchor, and weather anchor, and he's reported for the ABC and the PBS affiliates, as well.  He has covered over 40 hurricanes and tropical storms in and out of the studio, and his stories have taken him from the Crescent City to Europe.  They have aired on CNN, NBC, and the BBC.

Mr. Bellas holds a B.A. and M.A. in Communications from Southeastern Louisiana University and the University of New Orleans. He has taught on the secondary and university levels for over 20 years, including Tulane University and the University of Innsbruck, Austria, where he served as visiting professor with the University of New Orleans/International Program.

While currently teaching broadcast communications at Southeastern Louisiana University, and hosting the Telly award winning program, NORTHSHORE FOCUS, on the Southeastern Channel, Mr. Bellas continues as a broadcast journalist and media training consultant.

His 2007 Communicator award winning business documentary, TEN YEARS IN ONE DAY, on post Hurricane Katrina Recovery, has been nominated for numerous regional and national awards. A year later, Mr. Bellas followed up that report with another business documentary, AFTER THE GOLD RUSH.
